EU vehicle inspection
EU inspection for electric cars
EU inspection for EVs — no emissions test, but extra focus on brakes, 12V battery and HV cables. We have experience with Tesla, ID, EQ, e-tron and more.

What is the EU inspection for electric cars?
The EU inspection for an electric car follows the same basic framework as combustion vehicles — safety, lights, tyres, brakes, visibility and body — but with some important differences. The main one is no emissions test, since EVs have no exhaust. In return, we put extra weight on electrical components, the 12V battery and the brake system, which has its own wear pattern due to regenerative braking.
What gets special attention on an EV?
- Brakes: checked extra carefully because regenerative braking can cause uneven wear. Pads can seize from low use, and discs can corrode on the back face when stationary for long periods.
- 12V starter battery: EVs have a small 12V battery powering the electronics. A frequent cause of "won't start" issues, checked with a voltage test.
- HV insulation (visual): orange HV cables must be intact and undamaged. We do not open the high-voltage system itself — that requires special training and is the manufacturer's responsibility.
- Lighting: low and high beam, indicators, brake, reverse — same as any car.
- Body and tyres: unchanged. Note EVs are usually heavier and can wear tyres faster.
- Seatbelts, airbag system, mirrors: same as combustion cars.
How long does it take?
Typically 30–45 minutes — slightly faster than combustion (45–60) because we skip emissions. On some EVs we spend a bit more time putting the parking brake into service mode before brake inspection, so the total may even out.
What about my car — Tesla, ID.4, EQB, e-tron?
We have experience with all common EV brands: Tesla Model 3/Y/S/X, VW ID.3/4/Buzz, Audi e-tron, Mercedes EQ, Polestar, BMW iX/i4, Hyundai Ioniq, Kia EV6 and more. For Tesla we use our own diagnostic link; for other brands standard OBD covers what we need.
Do I need to bring the charging cable?
No, we don't test charging itself as part of the EU inspection. But if you want a visual check of the charging port — say you've seen sparks or heat — mention it on booking and we do a free visual check.
