  • Steering and suspension
  • Tires and wheels (tread, wear, tire pressure)
  • Exhaust system and emissions
  • Body and chassis (rust, cracks)

  • Daytime running lights and windshield
  • Mirrors, windshield wipers and washers
  • Service data via OBD port (diagnostics)
Prepare your car

6 things you can check yourself before the EU vehicle inspection

Many cars fail on small things — a faulty bulb, worn wiper blade or loose seatbelt anchorage. Check these first to increase the chances of your car passing without remarks:

  1. 1Check that all lights work — a bulb is one of the most common defects
  2. 2Check tire tread — at least 1.6 mm (3 mm recommended on winter tires)
  3. 3Top up washer fluid and check the wiper blades
  4. 4Check that seatbelts work and are not cut or damaged
  5. 5Remove loose items from the cabin and trunk
  6. 6Wipe the windshield and check for cracks

Frequently asked questions

Questions about EU vehicle inspection in Sandefjord

How much does an EU vehicle inspection cost in Sandefjord?

The price for an EU vehicle inspection varies between workshops. We give you an up-to-date price when you book. Call us at 41 17 32 24 or book online — we are transparent about pricing and always notify you before doing anything extra.

How long does an EU vehicle inspection take?

The inspection itself normally takes 30–60 minutes. You can wait at the workshop, have a coffee in the waiting room, or take a stroll downtown while we work.

When do I need to take an EU vehicle inspection?

Passenger cars need an EU vehicle inspection for the first time at 4 years of age, then every 2 years. You receive a deadline from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration — the deadline is in your digital mail at Altinn / Vegvesenet.no. We notify business customers with a company car agreement well in advance.

What is checked during the EU vehicle inspection?

We check brakes, lights, steering, suspension, tires, exhaust system, body, safety equipment (belts, airbags), daytime running lights, windows, mirrors and the windshield. Electrical systems are tested with diagnostic equipment. We follow the Norwegian Public Roads Administration's inspection checklist point by point.

What happens if the car has defects?

Defects are categorized as 1, 2 or 3. Category 1 defects must be fixed within 2 months, category 2 defects mean you get a new deadline. Category 3 defects mean the car must not be driven until the fault is fixed (driving prohibition). We always explain what was found and give you an estimate before we repair.

Can you repair what is found during the EU vehicle inspection?

Yes. We are an officially approved workshop and can carry out repairs immediately or schedule a time. You always get an estimate and notification before we start.

Do you do EU vehicle inspections on EVs and hybrids?

Yes. We have the expertise and equipment for EVs, hybrids and combustion vehicles. EVs have simpler procedures on certain points (no exhaust), but the rest is the same.

What do I need to bring to an EU vehicle inspection?

You don't need to bring the registration document if the car is registered in Norway — we look up the registration number in the Norwegian Public Roads Administration's system. Make sure the car is reasonably clean so we can access everything, and remove any loose items in the trunk and cabin.

What does it cost if the car doesn't pass the EU vehicle inspection?

The inspection itself is the same price regardless of the result. Any repairs are billed separately, and you always get an estimate before we do anything. A re-inspection after repair is cheaper than a full new inspection if you do the re-inspection within the deadline.

How long is the EU vehicle inspection valid?

Passenger cars and light vans need an EU vehicle inspection every 2 years after the first inspection at 4 years. Heavy vehicles and taxis have stricter intervals. You can find your next deadline in your digital mail from the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.
