Glass insurance and excess
Understand glass cover, excess and no-claims bonus. Repair is often 100 % covered. We file the claim directly with your insurer.

How does glass insurance work?
Glass insurance is part of comprehensive cover (kasko) with almost every Norwegian car insurer. It covers repair and replacement of the windshield, side windows, rear glass and panoramic roof for damage from stone chips, vandalism, attempted theft and certain natural events. What matters to know is that terms vary between insurers, but the headlines are usually: glass repair (typically stone chip fix) is 100 % covered with no excess at most insurers, while a glass replacement carries an excess of 2,000–5,000 NOK depending on insurer and policy. Third-party only cover (basic traffic policy without kasko) does not cover glass damage.
Typical excesses at major insurers
As a guide — these figures change regularly but are typical: If charges 0 NOK on repair and 2,000 NOK on replacement. Gjensidige charges 0 NOK on repair and 2,500 NOK on replacement. Tryg charges 0 NOK on repair and 3,000 NOK on replacement. Fremtind / SpareBank 1 / DNB charge 0 NOK on repair and 2,000–4,000 NOK on replacement depending on the policy. Frende charges 0 NOK on repair and 2,500 NOK on replacement. We always check your specific policy before starting so you know exactly what to pay out of pocket.
How to use the insurance — we keep it simple
You don't have to call the insurance company yourself. We have direct settlement with every major Norwegian insurer, which means we file the claim, send photos and documentation, and invoice the insurer directly. You only pay us the excess on pickup. All you do is authorise us to register the claim in your name and confirm which insurer and policy number you have. The full paperwork is on us.
Does a glass change affect no-claims bonus?
No — and this is important to know. Glass damage is its own category in most Norwegian car policies and does NOT affect your bonus the way a collision claim does. You can safely report a stone chip or a glass replacement without losing the discounts you have built up. This is one of the reasons we strongly recommend having glass cover — it is one of the few claim types that are "free" to use in the sense that it does not penalise you on next year's premium.
When is it cheaper to pay yourself?
In rare cases it can be cheaper to pay yourself. If your excess is 4,000 NOK and the glass change cost 4,500 NOK, you save only 500 NOK by using insurance — and have to handle the claim. For minor repairs below the excess, paying directly is the obvious choice. We always run the numbers and explain which option leaves you better off before starting.
